NEW DELHI, December 1: The absence of a prime accused in a 1984 riots’ case led a local court to defer the case to January 28-29. Nathuram, the prime accused, is reportedly suffering from a kidney problem. The other 10 accused, including Sajjan Kumar and Jaikishan, were, however, present in court today. Additional Sessions Judge Sharda Aggarwal exempted Nathuram from appearing in court for another day. A main witness, Anwar Kaur, was expected to testify Nathuram’s identity today.

Sajjan Kumar, Nathuram and the other accused have been charged with instigating the mob which killed Kaur’s husband, Nevin Singh, on November 1, 1984, in Sultanpuri.

The trial in the case commenced in March this year. Around six witnesses have already submitted their statements and testified against the accused, who are out on bail.

The other accused in the case are Brahmanand Gupta, Udal Singh, Seesram, Jaibhagwan Gupta, Hira Ram, Hanuman Prashad, Mahinder Singh Yadav and Stabir Singh.
