Miffed at the non-compliance of its orders, a Sessions Court ordered the police on Thursday to execute the warrant against Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray by Friday.

As per the order, officers attached to the Kherwadi police station will go to Thackeray8217;s house at Kala Nagar in Bandra and serve him the bailable warrant that was issued by a magistrate on February 8, 2007. Thackeray will first be arrested and then his bail secured by paying Rs 5,000. He will complete these formalities without stepping out of his house. Additional Sessions Judge S J Shah also exempted the leader from appearing in the trial court magistrate court.

Last year, Munna Tripathi, an NCP activist, had filed a criminal complaint before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate court against Thackeray who, he alleged, had made a provocative speech on June 19, the party8217;s anniversary. The speech was published in Shiv Sena8217;s mouthpiece Saamna.

Tripathi had claimed that the speech was meant to cause communal disharmony and promote enmity between two groups on grounds of religion, race and language.

Despite being summoned thrice, Thackeray failed to appear before the magistrate. Finally, the court issued a bailable warrant, ordering him to come before it to get it executed.

Thackeray8217;s lawyers then moved a Sessions Court asking for the warrant to be quashed. They also pleaded that Thackeray was old and not keeping well, which made it impossible for him to move out of his house in Bandra.
