VADODARA, March 29: Local police suspect business rivalry to be the reason behind the murder of Bhanubhai Patel, a prominent tobacco merchant of Koyeli village, who was shot dead by an unknown motorcyclist on Sunday night.

Ruling out any family or other dispute, official sources state that, since Patel was also a money-lender, there was a strong possibility of business rivalry. The officials admit that this was an act of a professional contract killer.

According to preliminary investigation 8212; based on prima facie evidence and the post mortem report 8212; by the Jawaharnagar and Detection of Crime Branch DCB police, a sole cartridge fired from a country-made revolver at pointblank range killed Patel.

Police said according to the information received from a tenant of Kalyan Bungalow owned by Patel and an employee of Patel, the assailant spoke Hindi, was 5.6 ft tall, wore a check shirt, black trousers and a white helmet, and drove a black Suzuki motor-cycle.

The police added that all exit points of Vadodara city as well as the State had been kept under surveillance. Official sources said the incident had shocked both the police and the entire business community of the area. It was the second case of a contract killing in the city within the last two months.
