The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) and its legacy with legal wrangles continues with a district court admitting a contempt petition against it and three senior officials on Thursday.

Additional District Judge Rajiv Mehra today issued show cause notices to DDCA general secretary SP Bansal, Sports Secretary Sunil Dev and Sports Committee convenor Vinod Tihara, and asked them to appear on October 20 to explain their stance in connection to an undertaking given by the DDCA with regard to the last sports committee elections.

The petition, filed by Sarojini Nagar Gymkhana (a club registered with the DDCA) secretary Pramod Kumar Jain, argues that “the DDCA had during the proceedings of an earlier suit 59/04 between the two parties passed a resolution dated March 1, 2007 that each affiliate club shall be entitled to nominate its member to be a member of the sports committee and… be allowed to vote and contest elections of sports committee.

“The suit was disposed of… and both parties were bound by the terms of the settlement through an order dated 12th April 2007.”

Arguing on behalf of the petitioner, counsel Ramesh Kumar appealed that the settlement was not honoured in Pramod Jain’s case, who was the Sarojini Nagar nominee. As per a DDCA circular of July 10, “only secretaries of clubs as per records of 2006-07 will be eligible to contest.”

Reacting to the show cause notice SP Bansal told The Indian Express that he has “received the show cause notice towards the evening and said that the DDCA has its papers ready for proper explanations.”
