Congress team meets Patil

The Congress delegation, led by state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, told the President that there was hardly a district where the district magistrate and the superintendent of police had completed an year in office.

The party also alleged that not even 10 per cent of the funds released by the Centre to the state for development works were reaching the intended beneficiaries.

The two major poverty alleviation programmes 8212; NREGA and the public distribution system 8212; had become victims of corruption. Funds for afforestation in Bundelkhand had also been misappropriated, the team said.

It also accused the BSP government of favouring private builders and real estate companies at the cost of farmers.

President meets martyr8217;s widow
Rasoolan Bibi, the widow of 1965 Indo-Pak war martyr Abdul Hamid, met President Pratibha Patil and submitted a memorandum, demanding special reservation for her family members in government jobs.

She also demanded the issuance of commemorative stamps on Hamid, development of his parental house as a memorial, a stadium in Bullapur village in Ghazipur district and an Army Recruitment Centre in Ghazipur.8212; ENS
