FATEHGARH SAHIB, Oct 29: General secretary of the Scheduled Caste wing of the Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee Iqbal Singh Shekhupura, his nephew Jaspal Singh, a resident of Abdullahpur Basti, Ludhiana and his driver Phalak Sher Singh have been nabbed by the district police in an alleged case of loot, disclosed SSP Paramraj Singh Dhaliwal, while addressing a press conference here today.

He said that the police had also recovered one .455 bore licenced revolver and 19 cartridges, one .315 bore country made illegal revolver and one knife from them. Two different cases have been registered against them with Sirhind and Bassi Pathanan police stations.

Giving details of the incident, Dhaliwal said that last evening one Bharat Singh of Mandi district of Himachal, who is working at Panchkula took lift in their Maruti Zen at Morinda for Sirhind. Just crossing the SYL canal bridge, they stopped the car and then by firing in the air they looted Rs 2500 cash and one Titan watch from him and fled away. Bharat Singh, then took lift in a truck and informed about the incident at Nogawan police naka who spread the message in the entire district. SHO Bassi Pathanan Gurdial Singh tried to chase them.

Meanwhile, they reached a police naka at Fatehgarh Sahib. Fatehgarh Sahib police tried to stop them but they again opened fire and tried to escape but police nabbed them.

It is worthwhile to note that the car, in which they were travelling, belongs one excise and taxation officer posted at Jalandhar.

SSP claimed that during interrogations they admitted to more than half a dozen loot cases committed by them during last a few days.
