
The Congress on Thursday finalised the list of candidates for the Manipur assembly elections scheduled to be held on on February 8, 15 and 23.
The list was finalised at a Congress Election Committee CEC meeting, which was attended by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, at the residence of Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The poll process in Manipur will set in to motion on Saturday, when the state Governor issues a notification for the first phase of polls.
Meanwhile, sources informed that the Screening Committee would meet on Friday to shortlist candidates for the Punjab Assembly polls. The Screening Committee, headed by senior Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai, includes Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Santosh Bagrodia MP, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi and PCC chief Shamsher Singh Dullo.
Congress President visited the party headquarters today for the second time in the new year and interacted with senior party colleagues on the strategy to be followed in the three poll-bound states, sources said.
