The BJP alleged here today that Congress governments in election-bound states were diverting development funds for election propaganda.

Party general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi disclosed the BJP would soon lodge a complaint with the Election Commission.

Naqvi claimed the Chhattisgarh government had distributed bags to 40 lakh school children, of which 25 lakh carried pictures of CM Ajit Jogi. The money spent on these bags came from the Rs 125 crore given by the Centre, alleged Naqvi. The Digvijay Singh government diverted Rs 9,400 crore for payment of salaries to staff. In Rajasthan, CM Ashok Gehlot had utilised funds meant for providing drought relief and the construction of roads. The Delhi government organised a rally at the cost of the exchequer, Naqvi charged.
