Cong calls it selective amnesia

The Congress today brushed aside senior BJP leader LK Advani8217;s demand to the Election Commission to make candidates in the presidential election declare their assets and liabilities as also details of any pending cases.

8220;Does Mr Advani or his party suffer from selective amnesia? They remember such brilliant ideas when Pratibha Patil becomes a candidate. Why did they not ask for such amendments during the last presidential election? One day before scrutiny, in the midst of election, the BJP takes a delegation to the Election Commission, which has no jurisdiction over Legislative business,8221; Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said on Monday.

In principle, however, the Congress agreed to discuss this issue if and when it comes to the Government for consideration. 8220;I strongly object to the mischievous timing and manner in which this issue was raised,8221; said Singhvi.

Meanwhile, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora today said allegations against Patil were baseless and motivated. 8220;Patil has had an impeccable track record in public life. During her long political career, not once has a finger been raised against her by anyone,8221; said Deora in a press release on Monday.
