8226;Harsha Bhogle8217;s 8216;A few doses of accountability will not hurt Indian cricket8217; was interesting. I agree wholeheartedly with him about the unacceptable manner in which the BCCI official went about his task of investigating the Harbhajan-Sreesanth incident. This person is a professional, enjoying a reputation for integrity and competence. That makes his conduct 8212; pre-judging issues 8212; even more inexplicable. He had no business voicing opinions to the media before submitting the report, leaking that report, courting the media and giving the impression that he was enjoying his five minutes of fame.

8226;India cannot take the Chinese attitude over Sikkim lightly 8216;To do deal with China8217;.

If it is consequential to India8217;s testing of Agni-III, when the media declared that now 8220;Beijing is within our nuclear strike range8221;, one can understand China8217;s intention to tell us that it is still in a position to hurt India in conventional terms. China may forgo its claim on the 8220;Finger Area8221; of Sikkim once India digests this message. Of course, we cannot take a defensive posture over this. Besides, Pakistan8217;s breach of the ceasefire was preceded by its testing of the 900-km nuclear capable missile. Could China and Pakistan be acting in collusion?

8226; China and India have deep historical and civilisational ties. But their relations have not been good since the second half of the last century. The two cannot be partners in the future because there just isn8217;t room enough for both in the space the world has to offer. Therefore, one will surge ahead of the other. China8217;s territorial aggression must be read in this context of the rivarly. While the Chinese know this truth, Indians tend to delude themselves.

8226;Arushi Talwar8217;s murder is another eye-opener with regard to policing in Noida 8216;Ex-help held? Yes8230;no8217;. The discovery of the suspected killer8217;s corpse exposed the UP police8217;s failure. After all, the UP police will always be associated in public memory with the Nithari killings. If the Nithari tragedy could be blamed in a way on the police, then it was the same police that didn8217;t check the terrace, where Banjade8217;s corpse lay. Time is running out for constituting a modern and efficient police force for Noida, which stands astride the urban-rural divide 8212; a factor responsible for crime in this region.
