Commandos, bomb squads at stadiums

Elite commandos and bomb disposal squads will be deployed in all the stadiums during the historic Indo-Pak cricket series beginning next week.

This decision was taken at a high level meeting of security personnel and the Pakistan Cricket Board officials in Lahore yesterday. The meeting also reviewed the security measures to be put in place for the series. Senior superintendent of police Sohail Khan, deputed by the Pakistan government to coordinate the security arrangements for the Indian team, made a presentation of the proposed arrangements at the meeting.

PCB officials said the meeting took a number of decisions including deployment of commandos and combing of the stadiums by bomb disposal squads.

It has also been decided that the gates of the stadium would be closed an hour before the start of play.
