
Boman Irani gives suspense a shot with Maharathi, but agrees, comedy is his forte
Actor Boman Irani, 46, is a very busy man these days. With close to seven films 99, Maharathi, Three Idiots, Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai, Teen Patti, Yuvraaj, Little Zizou lined up for release in the coming months, he has absolutely no time in between shooting schedules and post-production work.
8220;I should slow down. After all I am still young to the film industry and I have taken on so much work. But I am happy that I have been trusted with vital roles in movie projects. I call it destiny,8221; he states philosophically.
In between 8216;walking off the ramp8217; at fashion designer Anita Dongre8217;s show at Wills India Fashion week recently and filming, Irani has little time for anything else.
But he will soon be seen on screen in a small cameo in Karan Johar8217;s Dostana, alongside John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan.
8220;I am not too fond of cameos but sometimes its part of being in this industry,8221; says Irani, who was recently in town for the promotion of his film Sorry Bhai. But ask Irani to choose from his line up of movies and he quickly comes up with Maharathi, the Paresh Rawal and Naseeruddin Shah starrer based on a popular Gujarati play by the same name.
It8217;s a murder mystery revolving around a wife8217;s attempt to kill her husband by hiring a hit man. The shooting of the film is complete. 8220;To be cast opposite Naseeruddin Shah is exciting in itself. I have watched his films when I was younger. And I miss the conversations we would share over lunch on the sets of the film,8221; he reminisces.
This thriller is a one-off, says Irani, declaring that comedy will remain his forte.
8220;I don8217;t like slap stick comedy. I feel there is much more to a situation that just the gag,8221; he says.
These days Irani is busy winding up shooting for 99, based on the secret world of gambling, in which he plays a recovery agent with Kunal Khemu.
Ask him what he misses most from his pre-acting days and Irani responds, 8220;Photography. I carry my camera every where but hardly find time to use it.8221;
