Night out!
8220;Don8217;t worry we will go to the Timber Trail this evening Sanjeev. We will just complete the bail arguments and you will be out8221;, smiled a senior advocate, defence counsel for Sanjeev Bansal, co- accused in Judge-Bribery case. Much to Sanjeev8217;s chagrin, the Court refused to hear the arguments and the public prosecutor refused to argue the bail petition on Saturday.
Long time! We missed You
Former Chief Minister Amarinder8217;s Singh presence in assembly sessions ever since Akalis came to power has been as rare as hen8217;s teeth. Therefore, his presence for two consecutive days in the ongoing session was a pleasant surprise to many. His reinstatement as Chairman of Election Campaign Committee, seems to have worked well for him. Majority of Congress MLA showed support to him conspicuously.
New wheels
The top brass of the Punjab police is all set to get new pairs of wheels. A new Volkswagen Jeta has been ordered for DGP NPS Aulakh. It costs Rs 15 lakh. The Additional Director Generals of Police ADGPs would now move in Toyota Innovas. Ten of them have already been ordered.
A cup of tea please!
Officers in Punjab Civil Secretariat are given Rs 1000 per month as entertainment allowance for the office. This money is to be spent towards offering refreshments and sweet meats to the guests who visit them in their offices. However, as per rules, the claims for Rs 1000 are to be reimbursed only if the bills show tea, coffee or biscuits. If the officers order any other soft drink or lassi the claim can be rejected. So don8217;t be surprised if on your visits to the Secretariat you are offered hot tea even if the weather is scalding hot outside.
No bending
Higher authorities in Punjab Police have introduced yoga exercises, bhangra classes to tuck in the bloating paunches of the officers. But the trouble seems to be swelling right under their noses. Security personnel employed at the Secretariat too seem to be suffering from inertia concomitant with bulging bellies. An example of this is their aversion to bend while frisking visitors at the rear entrance of the Secretariat. But the duty requires that every visitor be checked right down to his feet. To avoid the discomfort caused by bending, the security personnel have placed stools. Every visitor is made to stand on it and then checked. This saves the staff, the onerous task of bending down.
Where is he?
A game of cat and mouse was played between Congress and INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala during the recently held Monsoon session of the state assembly. Sensing Congress8217; plan to launch into diatribes against him in the case of his alleged disorderly behaviour with the Privilege committee headed by his bete-noire Karan Singh Dalal, Chautala was elusive most of the time. Finally the house was forced to adjourn the discussion on the privilege committee report till the next session, which most likely will not be held for another six months.
