Concocting tales
Cocktails battled it out at Ten Downing Street as celebrities from the Pune circuit trooped in to exhibit their bar-tending skills on the evening of September 24. Dilip Puri and his partner got the broth right, winning the keenly-fought contest. Vinod and Noella Kambli came a close second, trailing by a mere 10 points. Vinod Kambli had actually prepared a mocktail, evidence that the man is as good off the field as he is on it. Model Sudhir Chaddha confessed to have concocted a 8220;horribly good8221; cocktail, being a 8220;rum and cola8221; man himself. All in all, a good crowd, decent music on the airwaves and Sameera Singh8217;s Genesis they arranged it all proved to be the most potent cocktail.
Big on laughter
One artiste who8217;s made it big, and we really mean big, is the girl with a naughty twinkle in her eye, Guddi Maruti. The lady was in Pune on the night of September 24, presenting her brand of humour at the Laxmi Mata Mandir for the on-going Navratri Mahotsav. She presented a medley of items called Tasty Misal and the crowded venue resounded with laughter. Especially little children who enjoyed the show the most.
Help at hand
It was a humanitarian action to help women prisoners help themselves. A team of doctors, nurses and cancer educators from the Care India Medical Society, Pune, conducted a free screening camp for early cancer detection of 60 women inmates at the Yerawada Central Jail.
8220;As part of our awareness campaign, along with screening for oral, cervical and breast cancer, the inmates were also given information about preventive methods and personal hygiene,8221; said T. Kasturi Shankar, project director, Save Women from Cancer. A month ago, the NGO had conducted a slide show on the same subject at the prison. The day-long programme, sponsored by the Innerwheel Club of Kirkee, received enthusiastic response of the women prisoners who were attended to individually. Caring, indeed.
