Pune Review 8217;98, a trade fair and exhibition, showcases the city8217;s present and past. The five-day exhibition, to be inaugurated by Sharad Pawar on December 25 at the B.J. Medical Ground, will have some 150 stalls displaying consumer durables, handicrafts, machine tools, computer peripherals and providing information about banking, educational institutes, publication among other things.
An interesting aspect is the Theme Pavilion8217; which will encapsulate the 1000-year history of the city. 8220;Pune8217;s rich history will be seen through these photographic panels featuring interesting trivia about the city like the oldest tree in Pune, information about sister cities like Kawasaki and Bremen, tourist spots, old and new market rates,8221; says organiser Hitendra Somani.
Christmas cheer
The Cancer Patients8217; Aid Association CPAA held its X-mas party on December 21 at the Limca Jogging Park, Bund Garden Road, for the patients of the 8220;play-group of leukemia patients.8221; Dozens of cancer patients from the Inlaks amp; Budhrani Hospital, KEM and Ruby Hall Clinic were invited. A 45-minute entertainment programme by Mahima Foundation was staged where carols and dances were presented, and Santa Claus came in a horse cart laden with gifts for the cancer victims. The CPAA also distributed sweaters and schoolbags and goodies donated by citizens.
Halo again
Hey kids, this is one birthday present that8217;s right up your street. On the occasion of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee8217;s 75th birthday on December 25, Jivhala, a city-based social service organisation, is organising a film festival for children.The five-day film fest will be held at the Prabhat theatre at 9 a.m. everyday except Sunday. A Charlie Chaplin film will kick off the festival on Friday. Gopalkrishna, Halo, Dost Mazha Mast, Abhay and Bal Shivaji are the other films slated. Passes for the event are available at the organisation8217;s office at 212, Shaniwar Peth, near Omkareshwar temple. Seems like a fun time ahead!
