City boys make it to 5th National Games

SURAT, Feb 10: Three boys from Surat have been selected to represent Gujarat at the Fifth National Games that will be held at Imphal from February 14 to 25.

Prateek Bhargava, a third-year student of SPB English Medium College of Commerce will take part in 100m and 200m freestyle. Winner of gold medal at All-India Sea Swimming competition, and also a medalist at All-India Inter-University Aquatics, Prateek will participate for the second time in the national games.

His younger brother Prammet, an class 11 student of C C Shah Sarvajanik English High School will take part in 400m freestyle, 1500m freestyle and 400m individual medley. The 16-year-old had won gold medals in all these events in the 1998 edition of national school games, and was adjudged individual champion. He also represented India at the 11th ISF 8217;98 World Gymnasiad held at Shanghai in China in October. Umesh Patel, a long distance runner, will represent Gujarat in Triathlon swimming, cycling and running.

Sports Authority of Gujarat8217;s swimming coach H G Bhagat has been selected to accompany these players. Pritam Reddy, an employee of Reliance Industries Limited, will also represent Gujarat in Middle Weight Boxing championship of the Fifth National games. He has won eight gold medals at the state-level in different categories and taking part in the national games for the third time.
