Church Attacks: Fresh violence in Orissa

Though additional units of security personnel were rushed to the affected areas, their movement was restricted due to felling of trees by unidentified persons.

The violence took place after an attack on VHP leader and prominent anti-conversion activist Laxmanananda Saraswati on Monday.

Paramilitary forces including CRPF and Rapid Action Force were deployed in sensitive areas as an uneasy calm prevailed in other curfew-bound areas of Baliguda, Daringibadi, Brahmanigaon and Phulbani towns of the district which saw largescale attacks on churches, houses and offices of certain NGOs on Tuesday, police said.

As a precautionary measure, prohibitory orders were also imposed in Phiringia, Tikabali, Udaigiri and Raikia, a senior police official said.
