PUNE, Jan 3: Chirag Nihalani, the eighteen year old riding prodigy, did the country proud by winning the International Show Jumping Individual Concour Show Jumping International for Young riders (CSI `Y’) event in the International Equestrian Derby at the Police H.Q. ground, Shivajinagar.

A total of sixteen riders including those from United Kingdom, Hong Kong, United States of America and India took part in this twelve obstacle show jumping event. What is interesting is that four riders were tied for the second spot logging eight penalty points, giving the jury a tough time and eventually all four were declared joint runners up. Riders claiming second spot in this event were Corrine Collins (U K), Rebecca Dearden (U K), Vishal Bishnoi (India) and Sabrina Holkar (U S A).

The other event for the day was the tent pegging team event for seniors. The event which requires speed, balance and accuracy witnessed a good show put on by all nine teams that took part. The contest results turned out to be rather close with only a half point separating the first two teams. While Border Security Force `A’ from Gwalior stood first with the maximum number of tent pegs scoring 78 points, the Royal Garha Riding Club from Indore with a team of young riders were second with 77.5 points. The Indo Tibet Border Police `B’ team came in a not so distant third with 74.5 points.
