Chhibber briefed on suspensions

Meanwhile, all the five suspended policemen today functioned normally in Police Headquarters since they are yet to receive the orders of suspension. The five include: two DSPs D.S. Thakur, Subhash Sagar; Inspector P.K. Dhawan; SI Balihar Singh and Head Constable Yash Pal.

The files pertained to the murders of political activist Inder Pal Gupta and city resident Ganpat Rai in 1983 and 1984. The files were reported missing from the Sector 26 police station.

Bedi, when contacted, said that she met Chhibber to put the police point before him. quot;I pointed out a few shortcomings in the inquiry report,quot; she said. She, however, refused to elaborate on the nature of shortcomings and what transpired in the meeting with the Administrator. quot;All we want is justice,quot; she said.

Official circles construe the IGP8217;s meeting with the Administrator as a clear case of discord8217; between the UT Home Department and the police. Efforts to reach the Home Secretary, Anuradha Gupta, over the phone this evening were not fruitful.

Meanwhile, some policemen interpret the suspension as interference in the police functioning. This is the second time that following a report by a UT official, senior police officers are being suspended. A few months ago, DSP Surjit Singh was suspended after an inquiry by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate indicted him in the foreign nationals case.

According to sources, the inquiry report has failed to touch upon certain crucial points. The inquiry officer did not even speak to the DSPs when the two incidents took place. There is also no mention of whether the lapse on the part of the policemen was intentional or inadvertent, the sources added.
