The Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the development of Chhattisgarh was hampered due to the corruption in state BJP government.
He also equated growth of naxalism in the state to that of corruption.
Addressing a public meeting at Lalbaug maidan in Jagdalpur, some 300 kilometers from state capital, Gandhi said, despite getting funds from Centre, state could not develop due to the failures of the state government.
“The UPA government provided Rs 8000 crore to Chhattisgarh as compared to Rs 800 crore made available to the state by previous government. Still, the desired development of the common men could not be achieved. It happened because of the high level of corruption and naxalism in the state,” Gandhi said.
Gandhi said several important schemes introduced by the UPA government were also not implemented properly in the state.
Keeping this in view, he called upon the people to vote for Congress to form a peoples’ government in the state.
Speaking for about six minutes, the Congress leader recounted his family association with Chhattisgarh and said he is elated visiting the state.
Former chief minister Ajit Jogi and former union minister Arvind Netam also addressed the meeting.
