PUNE, April 5: A local chess organisation, Buddhibal Krida Trust run by Prakash Kunte, father of GM norm holder Abhijit Kunte, will be organising an Open Chess Tournament for boys and girls under-16 and under-10 age group at the Manohar Mangal Karyalaya (Old Mehendale Garage) from April 12 to 14.
Boys and girls born on or after January 1, 1983 are eligible for the under-16 section competition, while for the under-10 section, only those born on or after January 1, 1989 will be admitted, according to a release issued today.
A total cash prize of Rs 10,400 is at stake, with the winners of under-16 group will be richer by Rs 1,000 each followed by Rs 700 and Rs 500 for the second and third place. In the under-10 section, the winner will be richer by Rs 800, while the runners-up will get Rs 600 and Rs 400 for the third place.

Zaveri clears referee exams: City’s Mahindra Zaveri has successfully cleared the National Referee examination held recently at Vishakapatnam along with the National Boxing Championship. Zaveri, presently is associated with the District Amateur Boxing Association as assistant secretary.
