CHEMCON ends, engineers146; council gets new head

The four-day annual conference of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, CHEMCON-2008 concluded at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Panjab University on Tuesday.

The four-day annual conference of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers IIChE, CHEMCON-2008 concluded at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Panjab University on Tuesday.

Sushil Kumar was elected the President while C V Murthy was elected as the Vice-President of the IIChE council at the function. It was also announced that CHEMCON-2009 will be held at Vishakhapatnam.

The event saw various eminent scientists, professors and industrialists from India and abroad come together to talk on various ways in which green technology can be used. They also discussed about how important sustainable growth is to overcome the energy crisis that the world may face in the future.

Various technical sessions were held in DCET on topics like simulation, transport phenomena, nano technology, and environment.

In the valedictory function, the organising secretary of CHEMCON 2008, Prof V K Rattan, thanked everyone associated with the event to make it a success.

Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, Prof R C Sobti, appreciated the department for its efforts to impart quality education and research for the past 50 years now.

The alumni were felicitated followed by an interactive session where the alumni shared their experiences with the students. Fun games like dumbcharades, tambola, couple paper dance and tug of war were also organised. The evening also saw stand up comedian Uday Dahiya perform at the Law auditorium.
