Serving society, eye on votes
While bijli, sadak, pani and other basic amenities are the 8220;main issues8221; for the Bahujan Samaj Party BSP, aiming to clinch 8220;at least 158221; seats in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, one of the candidates has decided to provide the basic amenities at his own expense. Kanwar Singh Tanwar, general secretary of the party8217;s Delhi unit and contestant from Chhattarpur Assembly seat, has started drinking water supply in water-starved areas, generator facility for the areas where there are incessant power cuts, and has been investing in other infrastructure needs too. The latest addition to his fleet of vehicles involved in 8220;samaj sewa8221; is a mobile mini-hospital. Tanwar claims people have benefited from the van, which has been imported from England, and has been treating patients in the rural areas of his constituency. On the question of election commission8217;s guidelines, however, he says he hardly knows what they are!
The Vijay Goel problem
It seems senior BJP leader and former union minister for state Vijay Goel is miffed these days. The three-time MP who has fought from Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazar it seems is not getting his way in candidate selection in both the constituencies. In protest it seems Goel is not attending most of the meetings to discuss the candidate8217;s list and even campaigning. Insiders claim Goel who had been vying for the chief ministerial candidature himself can even be detrimental for BJP8217;s vote bank among traders.
