Chargesheet filed in Rizwanur murder case

The investigators, who entered the Bankshal court in the morning, were shocked to find that the FIR was missing. Finally in the evening, a copy was found and the court accepted the chargesheet.

Counsels for the accused opposed the filing of the chargesheet on the ground that the normal court hour was over. The court, however, rejected the plea.

Metropolitan Magistrate Anupam Maity asked all the accused to appear before the court on September 27 iquest; the next date of hearing.

The agency is bringing charges of criminal conspiracy, abetment to suicide and criminal intimidation against the seven accused.

According to CBI sources, the agency has gathered sufficient evidence to nail all the accused.

Ashok Todi, his brother Pradip Todi and family friend Anil Saraogi are among those chargesheeted. Among the policemen, then Deputy Commissioner of Police Detective Department Ajay Kumar, ACP Anti-Rowdy Squad of the same department Sukanti Chakraborty and Sub-Inspector Krishnendu Das, have been chargesheeted. Moiuddin alias Pappu, a family friend of the Rehmans, is on the list too.

Officials said since substantial evidence against former police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee and deputy commissioner Gyanwant Singh was not available, they were not included in the list.

8220;Finding substantial evidence against them in the court is a different thing,8221; an official said. Rizwanur8217;s wife Priyanka Todi will be produced as a witness.

8220;Priyanka is important for the case. How can one undermine that?8221; he added.

The body of computer graphics designer Rizwanur Rehman was found near the railway tracks in Patipukur on September 21, 2007. The CBI, however, concluded after investigation that it was a case of suicide, not murder. Initially, the CBI had filed a case of murder against Ashok Todi and others at Bankshal court.
