Chaos continued

Yes, indeed, US-led forces must broker a peace at Najaf (‘Frontline Najaf’, IE, August 16). But with a lop-sided interim government under the control of the US army, it’s doubtful the terrorists will lay down their arms.
The interim government of Iyad Alawi is full of handpicked Bush men. Allawi cannot make a single move without American permission. In trade, too, everything moves in and out of Iraq through American companies. US companies will be allowed to take 100 per cent of their profit out of the country. US interests have caused major problems from India to Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and now Iraq. The imposition of US will has brought utter chaos to the region.

Nehru’s fault

By crediting the Nehru dynasty for all the development, if any, Manmohan Singh has proved he is also a typical sycophant like all Congressmen. The day Nehru became PM, India’s fate was sealed. He was nothing more than the average day-dreamer. People mistook his dreams to be his vision. It was because of his lack of foresight that a part of India is in in Pakistan and China. If Patel had become the first PM, India wouldn’t have been a third world country, euphemistically called a developing nation.

Us and them

It is inexplicable that the Congress-led government, while willing to throw overboard the draconian Pota, is ‘‘firm’’ about retaining the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act which is equally, if not more, repressive.
Is it because Pota is related to Kashmir, while the AFSPA is, ‘‘after all’’, for the Northeastern states?

Gentleman!

Story continues below this ad

The manner in which our gentleman PM is going about instilling some discipline and sense of duty in his cabinet colleagues is a refreshing change. This is what the people have been longing for. If the PM continues to remind ministers of their duties, responsibilities, accountability and commitment to the CMP then the ‘‘sheen’’ of ministerial office will soon fade. Hopefully, our politicians will discover their real job.

Save it

This refers to ‘Crude shock, slick response’ (IE, August 16). It is as essential to save electricity as it is to produce it. Water tables must be raised wherever needed by check dams so as to save on pumping energy.

Shame, shame

Arjun Singh’s recent utterances about the RSS are childish. He is immature, irresponsible and a disgrace to India.

Thanks to Milkha

Apropos of ‘Billion excuses, zero golds’ (IE, August 13), congratulations to this brave man, who has hit the nail on the head. The whole organising committee for sports in India should read Milkha Singh’s article, and take action. The officials of the Indian Olympic committee should be sacked.
