
CHANDIGARH, Feb 4: Vigilance Police Station, UT, today filed a 100-page challan against suspended UT Chief Engineer K. K. Jerath and others in the court of UT Chief Judicial Magistrate.
The challan has been filed in FIR No. 1 under Sections 13 1, a, b, c, d and 2 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, read with Sections 406, 409, 410, 420 and 120 of the IPC.
The chargesheet in the case pertains to receipt of heavy illegal monetary gratification by Jerath and other officials of the engineering department while effecting purchases mainly of electrical materials and also public health material.
During a period of one-and-a-half years between 1995 and 1997, Jerath allegedly received kickbacks to the tune of Rs 72 lakh through three middlemen, Suresh Sharma, Dinesh Sharma and Dinesh Kalia.

UT Judicial Magistrate First Class Jasbir Singh today held two city residents guilty under Sections 457, 380 and 411 IPC, and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for three years and a fine of Rs 100. In case of default of payment of fine, the accused have been directed to undergo further imprisonment for five days. The accused Vinod Kumar and Dahiya Singh had been booked under the aforesaid sections for having stolen some computer parts from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 47.
