Agartala, March 31: Militants returning to the mainstream will get upto Rs 25,000 if they lay down arms, according to the details of a rehabilitation package sent by the Centre to the Tripura Government on March 25.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar informed the assembly last night that the package also promises a training for the ultras when they return to normal life during which they will be paid Rs 2,000 as stipend.

The Centre, he said, in its circular to the state government has also requested the latter to highlight the details of the package to make it effective.

Accordingly, the state government, he said was making all efforts to give wide publicity to the scheme.

The Chief Minister said the state government had been demanding 54 additional companies of Central forces to combat insurgency.

But certain quarters were fuelling insurgency to destabilise the Left Front Government, he alleged. “Society is being destabilised due to insurgency and not the government,” he added.
