
The Cabinet Committee on Security on Thursday discussed the developments in Nepal, where a new government is set to take over on Friday, and in Sri Lanka, which has been gripped by fresh bout of
violence between the government and the LTTE. The 90-minute meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and attended among others by Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Army Chief General J J Singh and Home Secretary V K Duggal. Singh was briefed on the situation in Nepal and Sri Lanka, an official spokesman said.
Alert in Tamil Nadu
An alert has been sounded in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu following the eruption in clashes between the government and LTTE in neighbouring Sri Lanka. Tamil Nadu DGP A H Alexander said coastal police stations have been put on alert and patrol has been intensified.
