CHANDIGARH, Sept 10: Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi, would be issuing a certificate of school-based evaluation to students of Class X, beginning this session. This was informed by G. Balasubramanian, CBSE Director Academic in a meeting held at DAV Model School, Sector 15 today.

According to the Director, all regular students who have undergone a course of study at Class X of a CBSE affiliated school shall be issued this certificate with effect from year 2000. He added that the purpose of the scheme was to present the competence and positive attitude of the learner.

Balasubramanian said: quot;Total personality of a student can not be assessed by a single examination. Other factors like communication skills, regularity, discipline, cleanliness, attitudes towards teachers, schoolmates and extracurricular activities go a long way in shaping the personality of a person. So, we decided that a scheme to identify the positive attributes of the learner which are not usually assessed during the examination conducted by CBSE be introduced.quot;

Attitude, traits, competence and skills of the learners would be identified by the school on a five point scale and each grade of the scale would refer to the level of performance, which would be excellent, very good, good, average and below average. As per the CBSE guidelines issued to the schools, the certificate issued by the CBSE regarding the examination conducted by it will contain a foot note mentioning that quot;another certificate is being issued by the school on a format prescribed by CBSE which would be taken cognisance of while judging the total personality of the student.quot;
