PUNE, June 8: Three employees of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) anti-encroachment squad were seriously injured today when the wall of a house caved in during a demolition drive at Jaibhavaninagar, Paud Road.

The three bigaris, Sambhaji Pawar, Ashappa Dhangar and Rajendra Randive have sustained multiple fractures on their limbs. They have been moved to a private hospital and the civic administration has assured their families that it would bear the cost of medical treatment.

Assistant engineer (anti-encroachment department) S L Ghume said that the civic squad had launched a drive this morning to raze down 45 structures in Jaibhavaninagar slum obstructing the proposed widening of the Paud road. The squad had demolished 40 structures by noon and the work of pulling down the last five pucca constructions was on when the mishap occurred.

In another action today, in the vicinity of Pune Railway station area, the civic squad pulled down extended front margins of four shops.
