Unfortunate were the many at the Christmas dance, at Poona Goan Institute on Friday, as it was called pre-mature. Whatever the reason, they were a dejected lot when the law and order took its turn to curtail the dance, just when many thought that it was too early for them to call it a night.
8220;You will have to stop as we have received many complaints from the people staying in and around the Institute,8221; stated the police officer. All requests were turned down and the band had to wind up the show.
The PGI hall was packed to the limit with dancers tapping their feet and jiving all the way.
Young and old, all were there, in their best outfit, to celebrate Christmas eve with fervour. The occasion was graced by Commissioner Vijaykumar Gautam, with his wife and Lt General Eric Vaz retd who was accompanied by his wife Maureen Vaz. This gave the event the required colour, as they too were on the floor to join in the festive spirit.
The Jet Set band comprising the D8217;Souza family was unstoppable and so was the crowd, as after each number they cried for more. Prizes for the lucky ticket, table, guests and dependents were at stake. Joey Fernandes, Saroj Sinha and Susan Dharu-khanwalla were the lucky lot.
And that is not all. Another big dance is on the way at the same venue on January 1, 1999. 8220;We have taken the required precautions and we hope that we will not leave any stone unturned,8221; stated Mervyn D8217;Souza, president of PGI. 8220;Stag dancing will not be allowed, and anyone doing so will be thrown out,8221; warned the president for the new year8217;s dance.
