With the appointment of former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh as the chairman of the election campaign committee of the Congress party, local Congress leaders, who had once deserted him, have started coming out in his support. Today, when the former CM appeared in court for his hearing in the infamous City Centre case, a number of party leaders were seen in and around the court premises in support of Singh.

A number of party workers including former MLA and parliamentary secretary Surinder Dawar, former city mayor Nahar Singh Gill, District Congress Committee DCC president Jagmohan Sharma, PPCC member Amarjit Singh Tikka, Rajinder Singh Basant and other Congress councillors were seen waiting for the former CM outside the court complex when he arrived around 10 am.

It is pertinent to mention here that following the registration of the City Centre case against him, a majority of the local leaders had deserted Capt Singh. With him regaining power, it seems that the friends who had turned foes are now trying to get into his good books again.

Holding party flags and placards stating 8216;Captain Amarinder Singh Zindabad8217;, party activists kept raising slogans in favour of the former CM.

The slogan shouting further intensified as the CM8217;S cavalcade approached the court complex.

Capt Amarinder was accompanied by former local bodies minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, who is also an accused in the City Centre case, and others. His close confidants including Vijay Inder Singla, president of the Punjab Youth Congress and Ajaib Singh Bhatti, an MLA from Bathinda district among others were also present. For over one hour, while the hearing was on, party workers waited outside and kept raising slogans intermittently in his favour.
