KURUKSHETRA: The government has accorded sanction to four engineering colleges to be located in Jind, Kaithal, Panipat and Panchkula within the jurisdiction of Kurukshetra University.

The government was awaiting approval from the All-India Council of Technical Education, Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University M L Ranga said. He said the university will also start two more departments — Home Science and Sociology, for which the University Grants Commission has sanctioned Rs 50 lakh.

The permission to start a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course in seven new colleges has also be given, Ranga said.

The V-C said the ninth plan of the university had been cleared by the UGC. The commission has sanctioned Rs 2.90 crore for the next five years, the second highest aid given by the UGC to any university.

Super flying squads made up of a group of 15 teachers of the rank of professors have been constituted to curb the menace of copying. Three professors have been deployed at every centre. The Vice-Chancellor also visited centres in Jind, Narwana, Hisar, Ambala and Yamunanagar to oversee the management of the examination centres.

A personal contact programme of was held by the Distance Education Department from April 6 to 14. Nearly 18,000 post graduate students participated in the programme. The PCP programme for M. Phil students would be held soon, L. C. Gupta, director of distance education, said.

Vice-chancellor M. L. Ranga and University Teachers’ Association has hailed the appointment of Suraj Bhan as Uttar Pradesh Governor. Bhan had done his law course from Kurukshetra University in 1975. Vice-president of KUTA Amarjeet Singh Kang said the association has decided to honour Bhan. k k k kA seminar was organised by the Department of Punjabi to mark the Nanak Singh Shatabdi Samaroh. H S Soch, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was the chief guest and M L Ranga presided over the function.
