VADODARA, Sept 9: The J P police, on Thursday, arrested two of the eight people allegedly involved in the murder of 37-year-old builder Naveen Patel on Wednesday. The police also recovered the sword and iron pipes, besides an autorickshaw and a motorcycle, that were used in the incident.
According to information, Patel was murdered for getting involved with a girl, who earlier had an affair with her neighbour.
Those arrested have been identified as Jignesh Tamboli 8212; the girl8217;s neighbour 8212; and his friend Dinesh Mohin Shakoorbhai Mali. The police are still on the look-out for Tamboli8217;s cousin, Lala alias Paresh 8212; an autorickshaw driver and reportedly the main accused 8212; and five others.
According to the police, Tamboli and the girl resided in the Sahjanand Kutir Colony in Munjmahuda. They became involved in a relationship in 1994, when the girl won admission in a computer class through the good offices of Tamboli, an expert in computer hardware and software.
The girl came in contact with Patel when he started constructing a multi-storeyed building in Sahjanand Society and offered her a computer operator8217;s job. The girl then reportedly fell in love with the builder and avoided meeting Tamboli.
Angered by her attitude, Tamboli tried to discuss the issue with her, whenever he got an opportunity. Feeling 8220;harassed8221;, she reported the matter to Patel, who beat up Tamboli about a month ago.
Patel also called Tamboli8217;s and the girl8217;s families to his office on Tuesday night, allegedly abused him and his family members, and threatened them with dire consequences if Tamboli did not give up meeting the girl.
Sources said a humiliated Tamboli then contacted his cousin Lala, who along with his other friends drove to Patel8217;s office in an autorickshaw and a motorcycle on Wednesday, and assaulted him with swords and iron pipes after a verbal duel.
Patel8217;s employee Dahrmendrasinh Jhala, who rushed to protect Patel, also sustained injuries in the incident. They were then rushed to the nearby Swaminarayan Hospital, at 2.30 pm, where Patel succumbed to his injuries at 7.30 pm. Jhala8217;s condition is stated to be improving.
The police have registered a case under Sections 302 and 114 IPC against the those involved and are investigating further.
