PHAGWARA, Feb 18: Punjab Finance Minister Captain Kanwaljit Singh today said that the state budget would be innovative with three-pronged thrust on drinking water, primary education and roads.

Talking to mediapersons at the residence of his relative Jagjit Singh Chahal here, Kanwaljit Singh said that the Planning Commission had given a go-ahead to Rs 2,655 crore plan for state in an informal meeting and it will it will be finalised in next meeting, to be held shortly.

Denying Congress allegations about undeclared financial emergency, the Minister said that the government was meeting all its commitments. 8220;Before commencement of budget session on March 9, I will hold an open discussions with various representatives including those of industries for taking up measures to rationalise sales tax and improve tax realisation,8221; Kanwaljit Singh said.

He said that he had called a special meeting for devising ways and means to revive steel re-rolling industry, presently facing recession and expressed hope that steps would be taken in the Union budget to improve the situation.

Nawanshahr: While addressing a gathering on the occasion of the prize distribution function of Govt High School, Bachhori in the Balachaur tehsil last evening, Kanwaljit Singh said that with the completion of Ranjit Sagar Dam project, on which a sum of Rs 937 crore had been spent in the last two years, there would be no power shortage during the next paddy season in the state.

The Minister assured that Balachaur-Anandpur Sahib road would be widened and the announced grants for the development of Balachaur tehsil would be released soon.

ADC Pritam Singh Johal and Balachaur MLA Nand Lal were among others who attended the function, an official release said today.
