HOSHAIRPUR, Sept 4: Bahujan Samaj Party8217;s lone MLA Shingara Ram Sahungra was arrested from outside Garshankar town last night in the case of rioting registered against him among others in July.
He was produced this morning before a duty magistrate at Garshankar who remanded him to judicial custody.
Earlier last month, police had arrested BSP state secretary general Avtar Singh Karimpuri and four party workers on similar charges in the case registered vide FIR 95 on July 24 under Sections 451, 427, 147/148 of IPC. While Bahujan Samaj Party activists Joginder Pal, Des Raj, Jang Bahadur and Bhajan Singh were arrested along with karimpuri last month, seventh accused Jaspal is reportedly still at large.
All the seven accused have been charged with having attacked Garshankar police station on July 24 when they forcibly freed two BSP workers from the police custody after damaging building and furniture of the police station.
Heavy police force today camped at Garhshankar town to ward off any trouble.
