To match falling tariffs on cellphones, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) on Monday announced slashing of tariffs for its WiLL (wireless in local loop) mobile phones.
The current rentals at Rs 450 per month has been reduced to Rs 250. For a plain vanilla Rs 250 rental, BSNL will now offer free calling line identification and all calls will be charged at Rs 1.20 every three minutes for outgoing calls while incoming calls are free.
In another package, apart from a rental of Rs 250, if you pay Rs 450, you would end up with 500 free calls. With Rs 100 additional to the Rs 250 rental, the free calls would be 100 every month. Speaking to The Indian Express, director commercial of BSNL, B.R. Khurana, said that the move was in keeping with the Telecom Regulatory Authority’s directive on limited mobility tariffs.
The standard package will have a rental of Rs 200 per month with no calling line identification facility and call charges at a standard Rs 1.20 for every three minute call.
He said the new tariff packages were approved by the TRAI and have been issued to call state circles where BSNL WiLL mobile phones are available. BSNL’s new tariffs follow TRAI’s latest order in July this year which slashed monthly rental for WiLL limited mobility telephone. The basic service providers were earlier charging minimum Rs 450 per month (with an upper ceiling of Rs 550) towards monthly rental with outgoing call costing Rs. 1.20 for three minutes and free incoming calls.
