Jeweller looted of Rs 18.5 lakh

Gold ornaments and cash, together worth more than Rs 18.5 lakh, were robbed from a jeweller8217;s shop at Shaikh Memon street in south Mumbai.

When Mulchand Shah opened his shop, Marudhar Jewellers, this afternoon, he was shocked to see that the showcases and safe had been emptied and valuables were missing. Shah had last closed the shop on Saturday at 6.45 pm.

Realising that cash worth Rs 2.5 lakh, gold ornaments and valuables worth Rs 16 lakh were missing, Shah immediately informed the L T Marg police station. The police complaint states that the robbery must have taken place between Saturday night and Monday morning. Police suspect an insider could be involved in the robbery as the locks are not broken, nor does anything appear to have been tampered with. As the locks were opened with duplicate keys, police suspect an insider with access to the duplicate keys may be behind the robbery.

10-yr-old crushed under garden bench

In a freak accident a 10-year-old boy was killed last week after he was crushed under a concrete garden bench at Charkop, Kandivli west. Hamik Mistry, a student of St Xavier8217;s School, was playing at the Siddhi Vinayak Society Garden at Charkop on April 20 when the ball he was playing with fell into a drain next to a cement bench. According to the police, the bench was broken on either sides, and there were no proper supports to hold it. WhenHamik stepped on to the bench to reach the ball it tilted and fell on his head, fatally injuring him. Hamik8217;s forehead was crushed and blood was oozing from its mouth.

He was rushed to a nearby nursing home, where the doctors refused to attend to him. He was then rushed to Bhagwati Hospital where he was declared dead before admission. The local residents have held the builder responsible for failing to maintain the garden premises properly leading to the tragedy. No one has been arrested while the investigations are on.
