CHANDIGARH, July 27: Former Punjab Minister Brahm Mohindra and Arun Vij were unanimously elected president and secretary of the Punjab Fencing Association in the general body meeting of the association held at Maharani Club, Patiala on Sunday.

Brahm Mohindra8217;s name was proposed by B S Dhillon, president of Patiala District Fencing Association and P S Chhabra, president of Faridkot District Fencing Association seconded it. Mohindra was also authorised to nominate the other office-bearers.

Chairman: B S Dhillon, Vice-presidents: PS Chabbra, Jagdeep Kantore, YK Sharma, Kultej Singh, Kamal Mohindra, Devinder Verma, Sushil Goel; Organising secretary: Upkar Singh Virk; Treasurer: Sardari Lal; Joint secretaries: Darshana Sharma, TS Dogra, Ashok Sharma, Hazoora Singh, R K Rishi, Shashi Sharma.

Executive members: Jodh Singh Grewal, Manmohan Singh, Swaran Singh, Sampla S Niranjan Singh, K S Bajwa, Shamsher Bahadur Singh, Jagjit Singh Sidhu, Niramal Singh Radhawa, Jaswant Raj Sharma.

Grewal bereaved
Ranjodh Kaur Grewal, 64, mother of hockey Olympian Sukhbir Singh Grewal and Jasbir Singh, died in Ludhiana on Monday morning. She was cremated this evening. A large number of persons from all walks of life attended the cremation.

She was former a president of the Ludhiana District Women Hockey Association and a member of the District Grievances Committee. The Bhog will be held on August 3 at 12.15 p.m. at Lions Bhawan, Ludhiana.

Ludhiana: The Ludhiana District sub-junior and junior swimming championships for both boys and girls in the age-grous under-17, under-14, under-12, under-10 and under-18 years will be held at the newly renovated swimming pool of A.S. Model School G.T. Road, Khanna on August 1 and 2, according to Balraj Sharma, general secretary, District Swimming Association.

Players born in the years 1980 to 1982 for group under-17, 1983 to 1984 for group under-14, 1985 to 1986 for group under-12, 1987 to 1988 for group under-10, and those born on or after January 1, 1989 will be eligible for group under-8 years.

Entries close with the general secretary on July 31, 1998.

District teams in the age-groups under 17, under 14, and under 12 will be selected during this championship for their participation in the 14th sub-junior and 24th Junior Punjab state swimming championship being held at Roop Nagar from August 7 to 9.
