A delhi court on Monday refused to grant bail to sacked Assam Education Minister Ripun Bora, who was arrested for allegedly offering a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to a CBI officer to influence a murder probe against him.

8220;Keeping in view the gravity of the offence committed by the Education Minister, I am not in a position to grant him bail at this stage,8221; said Additional Sessions Judge S P Garg, dismissing his plea. ASJ Garg also rejected the bail application of Bora8217;s alleged associate Ramesh K Maheshwari.

During the argument on bail, Bora8217;s counsel I U Khan said he should be granted the relief as there was no evidence against him and that he was also co-operating with the probe agency from the very beginning.

Opposing the plea, CBI said that Bora could tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses if released on bail at this stage of the investigation.

8220;The probe till date in this case has not been completed. We have to also focus on this aspect to unearth the nexus between Bora with co-accused Maheshwari and journalist Mukul Pathak,8221; said CBI8217;s counsel.
