
SURAT, March 29: Notorious bootlegger Gordhan Manga Sosa, 18, was stabbed to death by unidentified persons, reportedly near his residence at Gotalawadi late on Sunday.
Three people had been detained, Katargam police said, refusing to provide details. Also, probe was on to ascertain if he was murdered elsewhere. He could have been eliminated by rivals or a close associate after an altercation, police felt, adding there was a report of a brawl at Gotalawadi around 1 am but no one was there when a police team reached the spot.
Some four months ago, Sosa was arrested by Mahidharpura police in a loot case and detained under Prevention of Anti Social Activities PASA Act and jailed. He was released on Saturday.
According to police, Sosa had been involved in bootlegging for quite some time, and also faced action in cases rioting, assault, as well as under the Arms Act, among others, registered against him since 1994.
Police said Dr Ariwala of Surabhi Hospital on the Sumul Dairy Road had phoned them around 2 am, saying a youth had been brought to the hospital by a group of four youth. But they did not reveal their identities and left, saying they were going to bring Sosa8217;s relatives.
Police said Sosa reportedly had no relatives in the city.
