MUMBAI, June 17: Bank of Baroda has come forward to sponsor local lad Ninad Konakanchi, a ninth standard student of Chandrakant Patkaal Vidyalaya, Dombvli who has been invited to participate in a International Chess tournament in England and Hungary.
Ninad will be participating in Smith and Williamson’s Young Championship starting on July 17. He will then play in the under-14 British Championship commencing on August 2 at Torquey. And the end of the tour, Ninad will also be playing six to ten games with Hungarian International Master with ELO rating in Budapest, Hungary’s capital.
He won the under-14 category in the Global Tele System International Rating Tournament. He also won the Bournvita inter school chess tournament in the open category. "Bank of Baroda has decided to sponsor his trip with Rupees two lacs as a gesture of encouragement and care," said K Kannan, Chairman and Managing Director of the Bank of Baroda.
