BoB to sponsor chess prodigy Konakanchi

MUMBAI, June 17: Bank of Baroda has come forward to sponsor local lad Ninad Konakanchi, a ninth standard student of Chandrakant Patkaal Vidyalaya, Dombvli who has been invited to participate in a International Chess tournament in England and Hungary.

Ninad will be participating in Smith and Williamson8217;s Young Championship starting on July 17. He will then play in the under-14 British Championship commencing on August 2 at Torquey. And the end of the tour, Ninad will also be playing six to ten games with Hungarian International Master with ELO rating in Budapest, Hungary8217;s capital.

He won the under-14 category in the Global Tele System International Rating Tournament. He also won the Bournvita inter school chess tournament in the open category. quot;Bank of Baroda has decided to sponsor his trip with Rupees two lacs as a gesture of encouragement and care,quot; said K Kannan, Chairman and Managing Director of the Bank of Baroda.
