KOLHAPUR, Nov 8: Three blackbucks, three peacocks, five ducks and a python have been seized by forest department officials after they carried out raids in different parts of the district. The seized animals have now been shifted to Tabak Udyan atop Panhala.
A senior forest official informed The Indian Express that these animals were found in enclosures. Cases were being filed against those who kept these animals. A few days ago, three deer were seized by forest officials from three affluent families in Sangli district. Two of the three blackbucks were found with a family from Ichalkaranji and one from Kagal. quot;Though the people have been claiming that the blackbucks had entered their farms some days ago, the villagers insist that they have been there for a long time. An offence has been registered under section 39 of the Wildlife Protecton Act,8221; he said.
The peacocks and ducks, it appears that they were inside a 100-hectare land, which had adequate fencing.8220;If investigations reveal that they were indeed kept in an enclosure, a similar offence would be registered,8221;one official said. The python was given up by a snake charmer, he added.
