
CHENNAI, NOV 14: The BJP National Council would ratify the suggestions of the Central Committee to make certain amendments to the party8217;s constitution during a three-day meet of its Executive Body and National Council in the last week of December in Chennai, BJP general secretary M Venkaiah Naidu said in Chennai on Sunday.
Addressing a media conference, he said the Central Committee which was entrusted with providing suggestions for effecting certain changes in the party8217;s constitution, was asked by the party high command to submit its report before the end of this month.
The recommendations would be placed before the National Council of the party which would meet in Chennai from December 27 to 29. He said major issues concerning the people, consolidation of poll gains by the party and implementation of National Agenda for Governance would assume priority during the meeting.
The Orissa Government had failed to provide adequate relief measures to those affected by the super cyclone which devastated thestate recently, he said. However, the BJP would not seek dismissal of Giridhar Gamang Government since the party did not want to politicise the issue and further affect the people. He said that the BJP would collect a cyclone relief fund from Monday and all the MPs and MLAs of the party would donate a month8217;s salary each. Party chief Kushabhau Thakre would visit Orissa to get a first-hand knowledge of the damage.
On the controversy over the Indira Gandhi Centre for Arts and Culture choosing its life-time chairman and cutting its relationship with the Government, he said the Supreme Court had given a clear guideline to the Government that no institution which was established with public and Government contribution should frame its own rules and regulations. Any trust, including the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, should not try to evolve its own style of functioning.
Asked about the Christian prayer halls in the State becoming vulnerable to fires in the last few days, he said no political overtone should beascribed to such sporadic incidents. However, at the same time, he said the law should do the needful if any vandalism was behind such incidents.
