HYDERABAD, NOV 6: In a rare show of open defiance, senior BJP leader and Lok Sabha member A Narendra has strongly criticised the party’s central leadership for nominating a forward caste candidate as the new president of the Andhra Pradesh unit and demanded that a BC member be selected as the leader of the legislature group.

Speaking to newsmen here on Friday, Narendra, who represents Medak, said that the party should have taken into confidence the local leaders before announcing the name of C Ramachandra Reddy as president, instead of going by the advice of a couple of leaders based in Delhi.

Narendra, however, made it clear that he would continue in the BJP "as a loyal worker and shall not quit the party."

Party sources said that the outburst of Narendra would, no doubt, be construed as a serious act of indiscipline but it was for the central leadership to draw any conclusion.

"The state unit has no role in this as he happens to be an MP," a senior leader said.
