BJP councillor arrested for assaulting cop, released

A BJP municipal councillor was arrested and later released on bail for allegedly assaulting a policemen on duty, in an inebriated state early on Sunday morning. The councillor allegedly roughed-up a constable at the Ghatlodia police station after entering into a fight at a restaurant late on Saturday night, the Ghatlodia police said. Officials said a police team had gone to a restaurant after receiving complaints that a group of persons dining there were drunk and were creating a nuisance.

The group had however left by the time the police officials reached the spot. They were making enquiries when the accused councillor entered and began abusing them, police said.

8216;8216;The officials later returned to the Ghatlodia police station and were followed by the councillor who assaulted a constable and was arrested immediately,8217;8217; police added.

A case under various sections, including that of the Prohibition Act, has been registered against the councillor, who was released on bail this evening.
