VADODARA, SEPT 12: The Bharatiya Janata Party office-holders8217; meet concluded here on Sunday with the participants zeroing in on general disillusionment and poor homework on the part of local leaders as the reasons for the poor turnout on election day.

According to office-holders reluctant to be named, the consensus came as a shock to the participants, who had initially expected a massive turnout in the constituency in view of Kargil and the pro-Vajpayee wave.

The meeting came down heavily on ward-level leaders, several of whom reportedly stayed away from electioneering for the party candidate under one pretext or the other.

Participants discussed the contrast between the turnout for the Vadodara city seat and Chhotaudepur 8212; about 41 and 53 per cent respectively 8212; at the six-hour-long meeting at Narmada Guest House. City BJP president K K Shah told Express Newsline that office-holders, after admitting that general disillusionment about political parties and elections was responsible for the poor turnout, had resolved to pull up their socks.

8220;We will soon rehaul our ward-level bodies to apprise the common man of the difference the BJP has made8221;, he said. Shah said they had also discussed the non-cooperation of local leaders during the poll campaign. Among others who attended the meeting were former mayor Bharatiben Vyas, Ashwin Shah, Ghanshyam Dalal, Vanraj Shah, Balu Shukla, Pradeep Joshi and Sunil Solanki.
