Gates donates 5 bn to charities
WASHINGTON: Microsoft Chief Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have donated another five billion Rs 21,000 crore to the charities that bear their names, the 8220;Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations8221; has announced. The couple made the donation by selling Microsoft stock for the foundations, the charities8217; spokesman Trevor Neilson said yesterday.
They had donated 3.3 billion in February to the William H Gates foundation focusing on global health issues, and the Gates Learning Foundation dealing with learning problems.The foundations have given out more than 400 million, mostly for health-related projects, Neilson said.
