Silver down,gold steady

MUMBAI: Silver prices dropped by Rs 30 per kilo and gold remained steady on the bullion market on Saturday. Ready silver of .999 fineness, raw silver of .916 fineness and tenderable silver declined by Rs 30 each to close at Rs 8315, Rs 8215 and Rs 8320 from the last close of Rs 8345, Rs 8245 and Rs 8350 respectively on lack of buying at higher levels coupled with weak overseas advices. However, standard gold at Rs 4030, 22-carat gold at Rs 3730 and ten-tola gold bar of .999 fineness at Rs 47,200 held steady on small bouts of buying.

MUMBAI: TATA Consultancy Services TCS has launched its E X Next Generation E X NGN software. Launched in 1991, E X in a short span of six years has grown into a user base of more than 60,000 satified users. EX Next Generation is the latest offering from TCS and is designed to address the needs, starting from a single user small business to a multi-user large enterprise.

Jewellery show

MUMBAI: OVER 20,000 visitors, including international buyers from the Middle East, USA, Europe and S-E Asia are expected to attend the 13th India International Jewellery Show IIJS8217;98 to he held at Pragati Maiden, New Delhi from March 18-22. This is the first time that the show is being held in New Delhi.

This trade event 8211; India8217;s foremost established jewellery show 8212; is being organised by the Gem amp; Jewellery Export Promotion Council and Miller Freeman Asia Ltd of Hong Kong, the world8217;s largest independent organiser and co-ordinator of exhibition having acclaimed expertise in the field. IIJS8217;98 will also be held later at World Trade Centre, Mumbai from September 11-14.

CWC users meet

MUMBAI: Central Warehousing Corporation CWC, a government of India undertaking which is operating container freight stations at J N Port and Dronagiri Node besides managing buffer container yard at J N Port convened a users8217; meeting 8212; the first of its sort 8212; inviting its user members of BCHA, MANSA, WISA, FIEO and IMC. CWC used this opportunity to deliberate at length with its users about operational aspect to enable CWC to take remedial measures to serve them in better way and ensure user satisfaction. Kulwant Singh, MD, stated that CWC has succeeded in streamlining its operations and ensured that containers from container yard, J N Port are moved to container freight station, within 24 hours of the receipt of the job order.

IDBI Bank

MUMBAI: IDBI Bank8217;s Khar branch was inaugurated on Saturday by matinee idol Dev Anand. The Khar branch is the second IDBI Bank branch in Mumbai after the one at Nariman Point and is equipped with sophisticated systems. By end-1998, the bank plans to open 15 more branches in urban and semi-urban areas.

During the nine-month period ended December 1997, IDBI Bank has mobilized deposits worth Rs 1,125 crore.

LIC Housing

MUMBAI: LIC Housing Finance Ltd has come out with a scheme for grant of individual loans for purchase of plots or sites meant for construction of houses. The loan will be available for purchase of vacant plots sites from government, statutory bodies like housing boards, development authorities and CIDCO. The minimum loan will be Rs 50,000 and maximum Rs 10 lakh. Repayment term is maximum six years or superannuation of the borrower or completion of age 65 years whichever is earlier. The rate of interest on loan slabs of Rs 50,000 8211; 5,00,000 will be 14.75 for 5 years and 15 for 6 years. On loan slab of Rs 5,00,001- Rs 10 lakh, the interest will 15 for 5 years and 15.25 for 6 years.
