The Karnataka police have arrested six teachers and have detained two minor students in connection with the SSLC (class 10) preparatory examination question paper leak case. The police said that there were open advertisements given about the availability of question papers on social media by students, and those interested were asked to contact through private messages, as reported by PTI.

Question papers were allegedly sold to individuals who contacted the sellers in exchange for money, with prices ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 500 or even more. The teachers arrested in connection with this case are from Kalaburagi, Tumakuru, and Ramanagara, including one headmaster.

The Bengaluru North Division Cyber Crime police are conducting further investigations to determine the roles played by the suspects and to explore the possibility of a larger network involved in this activity.

The police acted after receiving a complaint from examination authorities based on information about the question paper leak that they received via social media on January 6. Officials stated that the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board sends question papers to school login IDs, which headmasters and senior teachers have access to.

“It is suspected that they might have misused it to download and leak the paper, and further investigations are on.”

The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has released the board exams 2026 schedule for SSLC and PUC (1st and 2nd year) students. According to the released timetable, the SSLC Exam 1 for Class 10 will be held from March 18 to April 2, 2025, in a single shift from 10 am to 1:15 pm, starting with the first language paper and ending with the core subject.

Meanwhile, after the first exam, SSLC Exam 2 is scheduled from May 18 to May 25, 2025, also in the same shift, beginning with the first language paper and concluding with the JTS subject.

The Board, as earlier proposed, has a significant relaxation in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination passing criteria, reducing the overall passing criteria from 35% to 33%. A draft notification issued by the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) recommends lowering the minimum subject-wise passing mark from 35 per cent to 30 per cent and introducing an overall pass requirement of 33 per cent average marks combining internal and external assessments.
